Who We Are

St. Petersburg College's National Terrorism Preparedness Institute (NTPI), a division of the Center for Public Safety Innovation, is proud to be one of the few pre-9/11 institutions of its kind. NTPI opened in 1998 as a result of the Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Act, commonly known as the Weapons of Mass Destruction Act.

The Institute's vision is to be a national resource for terrorism and disaster awareness, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery education and training. To that end, NTPI provides the following instructional materials:

• monthly nationwide, satellite television broadcasts for emergency responders;
• traditional classroom instruction;
• training support packages that include:
• student and instructor guides, video, CD, DVD, and VHS products;
• mobile training teams; and
• Web- and computer-based training products.

What We Do

NTPI uses the latest in instructional technology to increase its impact and cost-effectiveness. New equipment, including state-of-the-art training development suites and a full television production studio (and virtual studio!), has increased the Institute's capacity to provide high-impact training at a distance.

NTPI serves as a training partner for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Grants and Training, the Community Emergency Preparedness Information Network (CEPIN) project, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), and SRI International, to name a few. In addition, NTPI personnel participate in discussion groups and planning committees for the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
